Colorado is home to some of the best hotels in the world, according to the Michelin Guide.
For the second straight year, the Michelin Guide is once again honoring some of the state’s best hotels. The recognition comes in the form of “keys,” similar to the “stars” the guide awards to restaurants each year.
In October, the Michelin Guide revealed its latest list of one, two and three key hotels, as well as “selected” properties.

This is just the second year the guide has reviewed hotels in America, rating them on factors like architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting.

“With their unique field expertise, Michelin Guide inspectors have selected the finest properties from across the globe, reflecting the diversity and excellence of today’s hospitality landscape,” says Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide.
She adds: “Whether travelers seek iconic resorts, historic city hotels or hidden gems off the beaten path, the Michelin Keys provide a trusted guide to discover, explore, and book truly memorable stays that inspire and delight.”

In total, 2,457 hotels around the world received one key (1,742), two keys (572) or three keys this year. In Colorado, 14 properties received keys and another 28 were honored as “selected” hotels.

Denver is celebrating the new one-key designation of Populus, which opened in October 2024.
“Congratulations to Denver’s Michelin key and selected hotels, including Populus joining The Crawford Hotel, Clayton Hotel & Members Club and Four Season as key-recognized,” says Richard W. Scharf, president and chief executive officer of Visit Denver, one of the organizations responsible for bringing the Michelin program to Colorado. “We are grateful to hotel owners and staff who work hard every day to create an inviting environment for visitors across the city.”

Two Keys
The two-key designation goes to hotels that represent “an exceptional stay.”
These properties are “truly unique and exceptional in every way, where a memorable experience is always guaranteed,” according to the Michelin Guide “A hotel of character, personality and charm that’s operated with obvious pride and considerable care. Eye-catching design or architecture, and a real sense of the locale make this an exceptional place to stay. ”
