How to Celebrate Halloween in 2023

Facebook

Calling all goblins and ghouls! It’s time to start making plans for Halloween. And this year is shaping up to be spookier than ever.

From culinary workshops and cocktails to aerial dance performances, these are a few of our favorite ways to celebrate Halloween along the Front Range this year.

The Cosmic Howl at Meow Wolf

Head down to Denver for The Cosmic Howl at Meow Wolf from now through Halloween. In addition to the immersive art experiences, enjoy activities like a scavenger hunt, a costume contest, a dance workshop, trick or treating and more.

Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance: Spooky Cabaret

Get in the Halloween spirit early by attending Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance’s “Spooky Cabaret” show, which features gravity-defying choreography with a bit of spookiness sprinkled in.

Choose between the 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. performance on Oct. 21 at Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance’s studios at 3022 Sterling Circle, Suite 150 in Boulder. (You can even grab a glass of wine from neighboring Vinnie Fera Winery before the show!)

The Talking Dead! Immersive Haunted Scavenger Hunt

When you arrive at Old Capitol Grille in downtown Golden, you’ll be handed a map and sent on your way. You’ll have just a few hours to solve the clues and find the hidden stash of gold. Organized by Golden History Tours, this scavenger hunt also doubles as a bar crawl, since many local “saloons” around town are offering free or discounted drinks. Choose from several time slots on Oct. 21, Oct. 27, Oct. 28 and Nov. 4.

Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra: Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Lodger”

Watch Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Lodger” while listening to a live orchestra at the Longmont Museum’s Stewart Auditorium on Oct. 26. The movie is a silent thriller, and the musical accompaniment adds even more drama and intrigue.

Halloween Cocktails at Adrift Tiki Bar

Plan a date night or a girls’ night out at Adrift Tiki Bar in Denver, which has rolled out an array of fun and spooky Halloween cocktails and dishes. The bar is also decked out in spooky decor, which will really help you get into the spirit.

A few fan-favorite cocktails include:

  • Dante’s Inferno Room, made with Rum Fire Jamaican rum, allspice liqueur, pumpkin spice liqueur, clove simple syrup, angostura bitters, Coconut Cream, Pineapple and Lime Juice.
  • Queen Mobu’s Voodoo Elixir, made with hatch green chili-infused 400 Conejos Mezcal, Smith & Cross rum, strawberry, cinnamon and lemon juice.
  • Ectoplasm Punch, made with Rum Bar Silver, Brugal extra dry rum, magdala liqueur, falernum, demerara, orange, lemon and lime juice.

Kids Halloween Workshop at Food Lab Boulder

Little ones will love getting to make a tasty — and spooky — menu at Food Lab Boulder on Oct. 28. While they sip hot cider, they’ll make and customize Rice Krispies treats with food coloring, sprinkles and Halloween-inspired decorations. They’ll also get to make mini take-and-bake pumpkin pies, as well as “mummy” breadsticks that have red peppers for eyes. Choose between a morning (9 a.m. to noon) or afternoon (1 to 4 p.m.) session.

Howl-O-Ween at Great Wolf Lodge

It’s not too late to plan a little getaway to Great Wolf Lodge in Colorado Springs. This family-friendly resort is once again hosting its annual “Howl-O-Ween” celebration Oct. 28-31. Events range from arts and crafts to a monster bash dance party to a trick-or-treat trail. Of course, that’s all in addition to Great Wolf Lodge’s inside water park, shops, games and attractions and more.

Munchkin Masquerade

Help your little ones don their finest costumes for this beloved annual event, which takes place on Pearl Street from 3 to 6 p.m. on Halloween. It’s one of the easiest (not to mention cutest) ways to get your trick-or-treating in before dark while also scoping out what’s new downtown. Local business owners get in on the action, too, by providing the candy!

You’ll find a full map of all the trick-or-treat stops this year on the Downtown Boulder website.
