Colorado Festivals to Help You Celebrate Winter

This winter, don’t dread the oncoming snow and ice. Instead, embrace the cold by going all-in on some of Colorado’s best winter festivals.

Below, you’ll find a selection of some of the best events and activities throughout the Centennial State for celebrating all things winter. Make this season one to remember!

Ullr Festival

Head to Breck for its annual festival in celebration of Ullr, the Norse god of snow and skiing, from Dec. 8-10. Partake in a “shotski,” warm yourself by a giant bonfire and marvel at the festival’s fun parade.

Aspen’s beloved annual winter festival is Wintersköl, which runs Jan. 12-15. The lineup includes snow sculptures, movie screenings, fireworks and more festivities.

Ouray Ice Festival

Watch as some of the best ice climbers in the world tackle the icy frozen waterfalls of Ouray at this festival, which is slated for Jan. 19-22. And it’s not all climbing, either. There’s also a movie screening, an (indoor) pool party, a gear expo, clinics and more.

Winter X Games

Get inspired by top-notch skiers and snowboarders from across the globe at this year’s X Games, held at Aspen’s Buttermilk Resort from Jan. 27-29.

You’ve got another opportunity to say thanks to Ullr at UllrGrass, a fun, music-centric festival held in Golden from Jan. 27-29. Be sure to dress in your finest Viking costume so you can fully enjoy the live music, beer, food and other festivities.

Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival

Head up to Steamboat to shred the slopes and enjoy all the festivities of this four-day winter carnival, held Feb. 8-12. This festival has been going on for more than 100 years, so you don’t want to miss the skiing exhibitions, competitions, dance parties and other gatherings.
